Whitney Houston, the voice that rocked and soothed the universe, is dead. She was only 48-years-old.

On Saturday, February 11, 2012, at 3:55 p.m. (California time), Houston was pronounced dead at the Beverly Hilton hotel, located at 9876 Wilshire Boulevard, in Beverly Hills, California.

According to various news sources, Ray, Houston's bodyguard, found the "I Will Always Love You" singer in a bathtub in her 4th floor hotel room.

Prescription drugs were found in the dead singer's hotel suite, but authorities have yet to say if illegal drugs were found at the scene.

While officials were investigating Houston's death, Houston's daughter, Bobbi Kristina, showed up at the hotel and demanded to see her mother's body, but was turned away by police, reports TMZ.

Whitney Houston's dead body was removed from the Beverly Hilton hotel on a gurney and taken to the morgue, where her cause of death will be determined.

While the world is mourning the loss of one of the greatest singers of all time, some people aren't surprised by Houston's seemingly sudden demise.

The superstar openly battled a longtime drug and alcohol addiction; and often appeared to be on a collision course of self-destruction.

Over the years, Houston lost her golden voice and her last efforts to revive her career as a legendary concert performer, crashed and burned when critics and so-called fans alike, trashed her waning vocal abilities.

Two days before she died, Houston, in what was to be her final, last performance, sang "Jesus Loves Me" while sharing the stage with R&B singer, Kelly Price at the Tru Hollywood nightclub.
