Helen Dunsford, cancer patient, takes down Florida bank robber

Written By Alfred Haynes on Saturday, April 2, 2011 | Saturday, April 02, 2011

Helen Dunsford is one tough cookie.

66-year-old Helen Dunsford has stage 4 cancer and a low tolerance for thieves.

On April 1, 2011, an alleged female bank robber entered an Oakland Park, Florida, Bank of America and demanded $10,000.00. The purported thief shoved her hand in her purse, stated she had a gun, and ordered the bank's customers to hit the ground.

But instead of walking away with a purse full of stolen cash, the alleged stick-up artist was slammed to ground by a 66-year-old grandmother with stage 4 cancer.

The heroine, Helen Dunsford, told police the thief was getting on her nerves and she had had enough of the robber's shenanigans.

"She got on my last nerve. I have cancer, stage 4, and I figured if I'm gonna die it's God will when I die. She's not gonna shoot me," said Dunsford.

The offender has been identified as Renee Breen. Police say not only did Dunsford tackle Breen, she and a male customer restrained Breen until they arrived.

It's been said that Breen may have mental issues and the robbery was an April Fool's joke.

This story is sad, funny, and inspiring.

I laughed so hard when I read where Dunsford said the crook was "getting on her last nerve". You go, girl!
