White principal who suspended black boy for calling white teacher 'cute', quits

Shades of Emmett Till.

Jerry Bostic, a white Gastonia, North Carolina, principal at Brookside Elementary School, resigned after he suspended a black boy for calling a white teacher "cute".

A substitute teacher, with equally questionable judgement, overhead 9-year-old Emanyea Lockett's conversation with a friend, and notified Bostic.

Bostic suspended the boy for several days, according to various news reports.

The school investigated the incident and issued Bostic an ultimatum: quit or be demoted to assistant principal.

Bostic chose the former.

According to a FOX News article, Bostic blamed his current unemployment status on a news reporter.

"I didn't show a history of making problems like that. I've had the best of evaluations my entire career and because of some syndicated columnist in New York or California, I don't have a job," said the former school principal of 44 years.

Chiquita Lockett, the 9-year-old boys mother, felt her son's punishment was too harsh.

One source said the student's mother may be considering legal action.

The moment I knew the facts in this story, I immediately thought of Emmett Till.

In 1955, Till was savagely murdered in Mississippi after he allegedly flirted with a white woman.
