Saturday, March 12, 2011, 82-year-old Joe Morello, a former drummer with the Dave Brubeck Quartet, died at his New Jersey home.

Morello, who was visually impaired, is most famous for his insanely rhythmic drum solo in the 1959 hit, Take Five - a song from the album, Time Out.

So far, NPR is the only news source that has reported Morello's death, and there is no mentioned of how the legendary drummer died.

As a very young child in the 70s, my father used to fill the air with the fluid and often complicated sounds of jazz music. Take Five is one of my dad's father songs. Years later, it became one of mine, too.
